How to remove mold from a plastic air mattress

One of the preferred types of mattresses is the air mattress. It offers a versatility that many other mattresses cannot offer. You can inflate the mattress and fill it with air as firm as you like. This is what makes it a staple in this industry.

However, mold can still develop even on your plastic air mattress. I must stay, molds really don’t care where they form as long as there is the right temperature, humidity, and environment for them to grow. But don’t worry, your plastic mattress is made of resistant materials. Cleaning it up is just a breeze.

Step 1: First deflate the mattress using the same pump device that gives it air. Make sure it is completely flat to make it easier to handle. When it’s flat, you can easily remove visible signs of mold.

Step 2: Clean the mattress in a sunny area. Mold tends to thrive in dark, damp areas. Cleaning it outside the house is also a good idea, since you can get it dirty and not worry about cleaning it later.

Step 3: If the pump device has not efficiently deflated all the air inside the mattress, gently push the mattress with your hands. Press down until air comes out. This will gradually loosen the air without putting pressure on the seams. Also take this time to inspect the mattress for signs of wear. If there are seams that are about to burst, make a mental note to mend them later.

Step 4 – If your mattress has a cotton or velor cover, you may want to vacuum it first to remove any dust mites. Use a portable vacuum. If you don’t have this at home, you can simply wipe the surface with a clean towel.

Step 5: Next, prepare the cleaning solution. There’s no need to buy a cleaning solution at the grocery store, as you can make one at home. Just add a cup of white vinegar to a half cup of warm water. Mix them carefully.

Step 6: Get a soft-bristled brush and a clean towel. Moisten the towel with the vinegar solution, then wring the solution over the affected area of the mattress. Let the solution sit there for a couple of minutes before brushing it off. Take care not to rub the mattress hard, as this may damage the outer plastic. After removing all mold, rinse the mattress with clean water.

Step 7: Leave it in a nice sunny spot to dry completely.
