WoW Worgen Guide

Worgen are one of the new races added to WoW in the new Cataclysm expansion. They have the look of the classic werewolf and belong to the Alliance. You may remember seeing them in Shadow Fang Keep. This WoW Worgen guide takes a look at some of the new features this class introduces.

Why are worgen worth checking out? For starters, they have a new and unique starter quest chain. You start as a human and are affected by the worgen curse. Then the Forsaken invade your home and you have to fight your fellow Gilneas and the Forsaken when the wall falls.

WoW Worgen Guide: Creating Your Worgen

Worgens can choose between the Mage, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Warrior, Druid, or Hunter class. Later, at level 55, worgen can also become death knights. While the worgen don’t get as many useful abilities as the new Goblin class, there are still some fun options for them.

• Darkflight: Gain 40% increased movement speed for 10 seconds while standing.

• Viciousness – Gives you a nice 1% boost to all critical hits. It will be useful for DPS that relies on crits like Rogues, Mages, and Hunters.

• Aberration: Unfortunately, this has received a nerf. Originally, it was planned to reduce the effects of curses and diseases, but due to balance issues, it now acts to increase resistance to nature and shadows. Still good, but not as effective for things like PvP.

• Skinner: Adds 15 skill to skinning with a 0.5 second speed increase. This will be huge when you’re going through an area where a bunch of beasts just got killed.

• Two Forms: Allows you to transform between human and worgen forms.

• Running Wild: Worgen will not have access to their own racial mounts. Instead, you will get down on all fours and run on your own. It is available immediately, but will not offer the 60% speed increase until you reach level 20.

The main attraction of the worgen is their history. Gilneas, Genn Greymane, and the curse of the worgen are steeped in Warcraft lore. Gilneas has long been isolated from the Alliance and protected from influences outside of Azeroth. The story goes back to World War II.

If you choose a worgen, you will go through a 3-5 hour quest chain until you reach level 13. After that, you will find yourself in Stormwind City with the notorious Genn Graymane. You will also find your standard worgen NPS throughout the Old World just like you would any other race. If you’re interested in WoW lore and want to follow a cool new addition, definitely check out the new worgen race.
