Window Treatments for Sliding Glass Doors
Sliding glass door window treatments are no longer limited to vertical blinds. This review will be of interest if you are looking for options for sliding glass door window treatments. An alternative is a vertical cell. This is a vertical fold system that slides back and forth on a rail system. They are more commonly known as Vertiglide. I think a vertiglide is a great choice for sliding glass door window treatments. Below I will address some issues and questions you might have if you are considering vertigo.
1.) Wireless
It slides from one side to the other with the push of a finger. Cordless also allows for a cleaner look. More importantly, it is safer than a wired treatment around a small child or pets.
2.) Available in:
Light filtering, order a sample and hold it up at night by your window to give you a sense of privacy. room darkening; excellent at blocking light and privacy, except on the sides.
3.) 4 Stacking Options
It can be ordered as a left column, right column, split column or center column.
4.) 6 Inch Stack
This is one of the features that many people like. More of your window and view are exposed when Vertiglide is open.
5.) Energy Efficient
Hot and cold air is trapped in the shade cells, this saves on your energy bill. You’ll notice the difference right away, especially on a hot or cold day. In the winter, be sure to open the shade at least once a day to allow air to circulate behind it, or ice will build up on the glass.
6.) Matching material
Pair it with horizontal cellular blinds in the same room as your sliding glass door window treatments.
7.) Inside mount
You need 4 inches deep if you want your vertiglide to be fully recessed. You can get away with 1 inch depth, but keep in mind that 3 inches of blind projects out. Consider your door handle. Provide the manufacturer with the exact measurements, they will take a small deduction with the width and length.
8.) Outside Mount
Mount 3 inches above the trim, but if you must mount it to the trim, you will need 3/4 inch of flat surface. For your width, you want the material to go past the trim by 4 inches on each side for privacy and light blocking. If you have 1/2″ to 1″ thick trim, order spacer blocks. If it is more than 1 inch, or if you have a door handle that sticks out more than normal, order extension brackets.
9.) Prices
I just want to give you an idea of cost and where you buy sliding glass door window treatments makes a big difference in how much you will pay or save. Here is a comparison of an 84 inch wide X 84 inch long vertiglide. (Always list the width first, then the length) on a lightweight filter media. These are the actual prices at the time of writing this article.
