Why God will put more than you can bear!

Today we are going to talk about the “Lie of the Christian religion # 29:” God will not put you more than you can bear “.

This is a VERY common belief.

You hear it preached from the pulpits … repeated by fellow Christians trying to cheer you up … but it just isn’t true.

There is nothing in the Bible that says this … So where did it come from?

A bad reading of the scriptures …

It is found nowhere in Scripture because it is actually a twist of the following verse from 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NASB, emphasis mine):

“No temptation has come upon you that is not common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can, but with the temptation will also provide you the way of escape, so that you are able to bear it. “

You see, the verse in question is actually referring to temptations, NOT weight of circumstances, religious duty, afflictions, trials, and tribulations. God will not allow you to be TEMPTED beyond what you can bear … but He will surely allow more things to happen to you than you can bear.

In fact, many times you see people in the Bible who are in serious condition beyond what they can bear. Jesus wept … he sweated blood because he was so distraught over his inevitable sacrifice … and then he was tortured until he died.

God will put more than you can bear!

You may think that this is not true. But it is, God will put more than you can bear. Why? Because He doesn’t want you to trust your own strength, your own works, your own mettle to live the Christian life. He wants to do it for you, He wants to be your strength, your source of life, so sometimes He (with love) has to allow your circumstances to break you.

Read this passage from 2 Corinthians 1: 8-11 (The message, emphasis mine):

8-11: “We don’t want you in the dark, folks, about how difficult it was when all this took over us in the province of Asia. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it.” as if we had been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. Instead of relying on our own strength or wits to get out of there, we were forced to totally trust God, not a bad idea since he is the God who raises the dead! And he did, rescued us from certain doom. And he will do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need. You and Your prayers are part of the rescue operation. I don’t want you to stay in the dark about that either. I can see their faces even now, raised in praise for God’s deliverance from us, a rescue in which their prayers played a crucial role. . “

Paul said, “He didn’t think he was going to make it” … other translations say “we despair even of life” (NASB) … “we were so overwhelmed and unbearably weighed down and crushed that we despaired even of life [itself]. “(Expanded Bible) … however you look at it, they were under more pressure than they could humanly bear.

And what was the purpose of this? Why did God allow them to be crushed?

Then they would turn to God and trust Him as their strength … and KNOW that He is the only one who can successfully live the “Christian Life”.

So, as Steve says, this is a LIE, God will put more than you can bear because He wants you not to trust your own strength to live this life, but to live it from His inner spirit.
