Why do people prefer brand name products?

When people are given the option of buying a brand-name product or a lower-priced “no-name”/generic product, they often prefer brand-name products. They don’t care much about how much they spend on Nike sportswear, Poma shoes, and Oshkosh children’s clothing. But when it comes to cheaper no-name products, they look down on them and consider them useless. So many generic products end up on clearance or reduction shelves. Why do people think brand names are so much better than generics? Are they really better? Perhaps we have been misled into believing that generic or cheaper products are not worth it?

Over a hundred years ago, companies began the idea of branding products to make it easier for people to tell the difference between premium-quality manufactured products and products that are cheaper and less well-known.

Manufacturers in the late 1800s created packaging, labels, and advertising to make it easy for customers to recognize and find their favorite products on store shelves. This identical branding method is still used to allow people around the world to easily identify America’s superior quality products versus less reliable products on the market.

Traditionally, the US is known for its high-quality brand name products that allow it to have the power to charge higher prices. People around the world know exactly what they’re getting when they shop in the US.

It is standard that product brands are trustworthy and of high value. When a customer trusts a branded product, they will most likely purchase the product/service repeatedly. Therefore, repeat customers drive profits from branded products much more than generic brands.

When a customer chooses a product, their memory is triggered and they recall a TV commercial they saw, or a jingle they heard on the radio, or the big sign they see while driving home from work every day. This familiarizes them with the product rather than cheap products. Even if you’re not in a store, some of the jingles you’ve heard stick in your head and you find yourself singing or humming along to them.

Does branding a product work with internet sales? The branding of a website is more essential than the branding of separate products. Studies show that online shoppers look for more sites they can trust and sell what they want at lower prices than real brands for sale. Therefore, websites that sell products need more time to advertise their website than the product itself.

The purpose of most advertising methods is to find out what customers are looking for and make it available to them. In conventional retail stores, premium brand name products are very important. At the same time, people who buy products on the Internet are looking for better quality websites than ever before.
