The Similarities Between Platform Tennis and Badminton

We all know that paddle tennis is a game quite similar to grass tennis. We also know the differences between the two. Another game that is quite similar is badminton. Let’s talk about badminton and learn about its similarities and differences with paddle tennis.

Badminton is a good game for the family. It’s a bit like tennis because in both games you hit an object on a net with rackets. But the badminton court is smaller, even smaller than a paddle tennis court, the racket also has strings like in grass tennis but lighter, and, this is the main difference, a feathered shuttlecock is hit instead of a ball.

A game of rackets and roosters called Poona was first played in India. When it was brought to England in 1873, it became very popular. So much was played on the estate of the Duke of Beaufort – Badminton, in Gloucestershire – that it bears the name of this place. The game arrived in North America shortly thereafter.

The game is played with strong and light rackets. They can be almost any shape or size, but they should not weigh more than six ounces. They are used to hit the shuttlecock or “bird” from one side to the other on a net. The rooster is a small light sphere made of cork and kid, with 14 or 16 feathers on top. A rectangular court, either outdoors or indoors, is the playing field. The object of the game is to hit the rooster over the net before it hits the ground.

For a singles game, when two people play, the court is 44 feet long and 17 feet wide. When four people play a game of doubles, two on two, the court is 44 feet long and 20 feet wide. In both cases, the net is laid 5 feet above the ground or the ground in the center.

The person – or the side, if it is a doubles team – that wins the draw may choose to serve first or select courts. The serving side or player is said to be “in”. the receiving or playing side is “out.”

The game starts with the service. In singles it is done from the singles service area in the right half of the court. With a low blow of the racket, the player sends the bird diagonally from his right midfield to the opponent’s right midfield. If the server wins the point, he then serves from his left midfield to the opponent’s left midfield. He continues to serve until he loses the service due to a foul. Thereafter, throughout the game, the server’s position depends on its score. If he has a score of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, etc., serve from the right side. If you have an odd number of points, serve from the left side of the court.
