Star Wars: The Clone Wars Review

I may be a little late for the game (or the TV show, as the case may be), but the following paragraphs highlight my point of view, as an avid fan of the Star Wars “original trilogy” from the television series called Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

As a short summary, I had high expectations of the latest Star Wars trilogy and was disappointed when the movies came out. Each release was a bit better than the last, but overall they had nothing on the original trilogy. It wasn’t until my four-year-old expressed interest in seeing them (after being excited about the original trilogy) that I saw them through my son’s eyes. I still think they are far inferior to the original trilogy, but now I can understand what George Lucas was trying to achieve as a trilogy of children’s movies.

This brings me to The Clone Wars. The television series takes place between Episodes II (Attack of the Clones) and III (Revenge of the Sith). With outstanding animation (once you get used to the style) and interesting storylines, The Clone Wars really feels like part of the expanded SW universe (which, of course, it is officially). It also ties together the last two films in the trilogy and makes watching Revenge of the Sith a much more interesting proposition. Plus, some great new characters are introduced, and some lesser-known characters from the original trilogy manage to make a welcome return, with bigger storylines (including bounty hunters Bossk and Dengar).

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is definitely a kids’ show, but it gets pretty dark as the series progresses. My (now) six year old son was scared of some stories, especially regarding the Sith Witches of Dathomir and the return of Darth Maul (with some metallic additions).

If you want to return to more interesting SW stories (with less political overtones), follow Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, as well as many other characters from the Star Wars universe, as they fight against the Separatists, bounty hunters and Sith warriors. and a dark figure known as Darth Sidious.

These will be a great precursor to SW’s new animated series: Star Wars Rebels.

SW: The Clone Wars runs over six seasons and can be purchased from all leading DVD retailers and outlets.
