Learn Digital Photography – Essential Lessons for Teaching Kids to Take Photos

1. Motivation

Kids don’t really need motivation to take photos, but there will be times when their ability will be overwhelmed by their lack of experience, which can result in frustration. So look for ways to motivate your kids to shoot more, and encourage them as they get better, even a little bit. Nothing breeds success like success, so make sure they feel successful because kids who feel good about themselves are ready for instruction.

2. Try new things

You never need to tell a child to try something different. They are always willing to experiment with a new idea and try to see if it works. So give them lots of ideas and tips, like changing your point of view or trying a different angle. You don’t need to give much direction before they take good photos.

3. Get closer

One of the biggest problems most photographers have is getting close. So if you can get your kids to learn this basic principle earlier rather than later in life, then they’re on their way to big shots. This simple step will give you better images while eliminating unnecessary clutter.

4. Learn the rule of thirds

If you can teach them this fundamental rule at a young age, you will have won half the battle. Imagine the image overlaid with a tic-tac-toe or three-in-a-row grid. Where these lines intersect is where you place the subject. Use this rule and you will notice an immediate improvement. When photographing horizons, they should be along one of these horizontal lines. The great thing about most new cameras is that there is a setting that allows you to place a grid on your screen to guide you.

5. Practice, practice, practice

Gary Player, one of the most successful international golfers, always says: “the more I practice, the luckier I get.” If his children don’t take many photos every day, encourage them to take more. By doing so and becoming familiar with the camera and composition, photography will become second nature to a child.

There are many, many tips, techniques, and tricks that a child can learn to become a better photographer at a young age. These are just a few of them that I think will help you become a better photographer in a shorter space of time. Like I said before, nothing breeds success like success and this is what you want to encourage in your children. By animating and complimenting you will find that you will create excitement and excitement in your photography. Happy shooting!
