How to understand what a public notice is about

Notices issued by:

Government agency or legislative body

Private institutions or individuals

By Government or Legislation

The primary purpose of notices issued by a government agency or legislative body is to raise awareness about the formulation of policy or the implementation of any law or regulation. It is issued by the government to notify the citizens of the nation about it.

In some countries, the government issues notices to solicit the opinion of the general population before making or implementing new policies or laws. It is usually issued by those who apply for a liquor license approval, reasoning or modification, or some other minor sanction where they require the permission of the local government, city council, country commission, or Municipal Corporation.

These types of notices are published in national and local newspapers in the form of advertisements and on the official website of the respective government or legislative body. In rare cases, it is also published in reputable magazines and other newspapers.

Government or semi-government companies also publish tender notices for any public sector unit contracts and schemes for receiving bids from associations and private companies.

By Private or Individual Institutions:

Public notices are issued by private organizations or individuals mainly in case of legal disputes or proceedings, mainly by the lawyers or legal advisers of a company or an individual.

One of the most common types of ads posted by individuals are ads related to the real estate industry, mostly ads related to land and property disputes. However, it sometimes also shows property rates for different areas of a particular city, also published by real estate associations.

These types of notices are published in local newspapers for language convenience. The main areas covered by these types of announcements are clearing of title to any property, ownership claim on land or other real estate, adjustment or change of ownership, illegal possession of property, etc.

In these public notice announcements, the plaintiff gives the opposing party a certain amount of time to respond to the issue of concern mentioned in the notice. If the opposing party does not respond, the case automatically goes in favor of the plaintiff and his client. In the age of internet and other digital technologies, there are many online websites available that post these advertisements on their pages, thus saving a lot of time and resources for the concerned people.

Likewise, some nationalized or private banks or financial institutions also publish notices in the newspapers to remind their clients of outstanding loans or to inform about the custody or possession of a client’s assets due to non-payment.

In addition, some companies publish public notices in different newspapers, magazines or online media to respond to any negative news or rumors that may damage or tarnish the image and reputation of the company.

Although the newspaper is the most popular means of publishing public notices, some announcements are given through different media such as radio, television, electronic mail (e-mail), etc.
