Herbalism is one of the top three gathering professions in World of Warcraft and continues to be a great source of income in Cataclysm. Some of the most valuable trade materials can only be gathered if you’re an herbalist, but most people don’t take their herbalism skill up to level 525.

Whiptail is used in about a dozen Alchemy recipes and is also ground by players with Inscription to make ink. It is a very valuable and rare herb that is only found in two areas. Found up and down the rivers in Uldum and some found west of Baradin Hold in Tol Barad. To farm it, you need to head to Uldum and fly along the outer banks of the river. The river is shaped like a Y, continuing up along the western shore and south along the eastern shores. Make sure to cover the area south of the Lost City of Tol’vir.

Twilight Jasmine Cultivation

Twilight Jasmine, similar to Whiptail, is a rare and valuable herb. Alchemists commonly use it to create elixirs and vials. It is only found in the fields of the Twilight Highlands. To farm Twilight Jasmine, head to the Twilight Highlands and fly along riverbanks and mountain ridges. Make sure you stay far enough inland to find the most Twilight Jasmine.

Heart Flower Cultivation

Heartblossom is not as rare as Twilight Jasmine and Whiptail. It is actually much more common, but is sold in larger quantities. Scribes often purchase it to grind it into blackfallow ink. Like Whiptail and Twilight Jasmine, Heartblossom is only found in one zone. To farm it, head to Deepholm and fly along the ridges looking for the grass on the flat areas.

Cultivating Volatile Life

Volatile Life is another valuable commercial material that you will find as an herbalist. You can find it by gathering all level 80-85 herbs, including the three above. To grow it, I suggest you check your realm’s auction house to see which herb is the most valuable. Pick that herb until you have the Volatile Life you need.

You can also grow herbs in Vashj’ir and Mt. Hyjal, the difference is that you will get a variety of herbs instead of the area specific herbs mentioned above.
