Aside from making the basketball, throwing the ball is the best part of the game that we all know and love. There’s nothing like watching players like Stephen Curry and Ray Allen drain shot after shot on the basketball court.

Don’t be the typical dancer. Understand the importance of shooting from form close to the basket and develop a consistent release.

Practice form shots about 4 feet away from the basket and focus on consistent form and smooth release. Keep your eyes on the hoop and the ball in line with the eye of your shooting hand. Release the basketball with the same speed and shape on each shot attempt.

Also, focus on making a swish shot that doesn’t touch the rim, but falls directly through the net.

Your form must be consistent

The best shooters in the world are the best shooters in the world because they have developed a consistent form that never changes, no matter how close or far they are from the basket.

You should be able to drain 20-25 shots in a row within 4 feet of the basket. You should even be able to do these shots with your eyes closed. If you can’t make 20 shots in a row when you’re 4 feet from the basket, do you really think you should shoot three?

Once you can get 25 shots in a row from 4 feet, then shoot from 5 feet, 6 feet, etc.

As you move into the three-point and mid-range area, the only thing that should change is the power coming from your legs, your form should stay the same.

The basics will make everything so much easier

If you want to gain an advantage over your competition, you must do what they are not doing. Most basketball players get arrogant after a while and forget the importance of mastering the fundamentals.

Go back and watch some Michael Jordan movies, and you’ll notice that everything he did looked effortless. He was able to do those great moves because he mastered the fundamentals.

Once you master the fundamentals, your brain can focus on other aspects of the game of basketball, which is why high-level players can perform sick moves that most players can only dream of.
