December 2007 Disney World Construction and Remodeling Updates

Disney World in Orlando is the number one tourist destination in the world. Here’s your chance to stay up-to-date with Disney World construction and renovation news at Disney Vacation Club timeshare resorts, Disney hotels and attractions that may impact your next family vacation. All information comes directly from the Orange and Osceola County Florida permitting departments and has been researched and summarized by a Disney World Florida Area Certified General Contractor.

Several permits were applied for Typhoon Lagoon as a water park near the end of the 2007 redevelopment. Power will be added for a double convection oven and blast chiller in the Leaning Palms restaurant, rotted wood in the ticket booths will be removed and replaced , some of the rusted metal at Crush ‘n’ Gusher will be replaced with PVC, a switch in the wave pool is being replaced, and a new hot dog cart/stand will be installed at Crush n Gusher.

The first permit for the annual redevelopment of Blizzard Beach was presented; some electrical system upgrades.

At Downtown Disney Marketplace, a new fan will be installed on the Christmas Ship, a new motor control center will be installed at the Rainforest Cafe, and Santas Chalet will be installed across from World of Disney.

At Disney MGM Studios (just weeks away from becoming Disney Hollywood Studios), Playhouse Disney is upgrading its electrical service; Food Pad 2 at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater is receiving replacements for electricity, lighting, water, sanitation and drainage; and the Animation Archway and Entry Guard Shack will be renamed. A new guest cooling system will be installed on Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

At the Magic Kingdom, a handrail will be installed in the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin unloading area, while Tonys Town Square Restaurant will see some work in the kitchen and serving area.

At Epcot, Imagineering has submitted a permit for the Velcro exhibit marquee package soon to open at Innoventions, as well as a new speaker system in Canada.

Roof areas of the Epcot Germany pavilion will be repaired, while the World Showplace food preparation area will get a new loading dock and elevator, as well as new lighting and a concrete walkway.

Image Works’ subsequent exhibit in the Imagination Pavilion will see the renovation and renovation of interior finishes, including paint, light fixtures, projectors and floor coverings.

Surveillance cameras are being installed in the parking lots of the Polynesian Resort and at the road entrances and game room of the Yacht & Beach Club Resort property.

The Polynesian Hotel will also see some kitchen work as the flooring is replaced.

A new marquee sign will be installed at the Fantasia merchandise store at the Contemporary Resort.

The asphalt shingle roof will be replaced in the lower patio area by the main pool at the Disney timeshares.

Pool covers will be removed and replaced and public restrooms at the main pool at Caribbean Beach Old Port Royale will be rehabilitated.

The Amateur Athletic Union, located in the original Walt Disney World Preview Center building at the Hotel Plaza Boulevard, will receive a new signage package, courtesy of Walt Disney Imagineering.
