The competition between the NFL and the NBA is on two very different levels. Which means that the smaller market teams in the National Football League have a better chance of winning the Super Bowl. In my lifetime, the only small-market team that showed a steady stream of success was the San Antonio Spurs.

The City of San Antonio is considered a small market. I don’t understand how cities are judged by the size of their market.

According to Wikipedia, San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the United States and the second largest in the state of Texas. I guess you can say that the Spurs are the Green Bay Packers of the NBA. That is, they are in a small market with a winning tradition.

But I have an interesting question that I would like to ask. What if the best players in the National Football League joined forces in a huge market like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh did in Miami?

For example, quarterback Drew Brees, wide receiver Calvin Johnson and running back Adrian Peterson came together to form the big three on offense along with linebacker Patrick Willis to anchor the defense. Those players I’ve mentioned are four of the best at their position.

They would likely have been the first team to go undefeated since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Small-market teams like the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs wouldn’t have a chance to keep their superstars under contract if the system The NFL’s salary cap was similar to the NBA’s.

The National Football League’s salary cap structure would prevent the big teams in the market from signing players of that magnitude.

A salary cap is a rule that places a limit on the amount of money a sports franchise can spend on a player. I like the way the NFL has set up its salary cap structure. In the NFL, the team with the worst record in the league can make the playoffs or even win the Super Bowl next year.

The main reason for all the parody in the NFL is the salary cap system that is currently in place. Big-market teams can’t dominate the free-agent market the way big-market NBA cities can.

I was not surprised when LeBron James made the decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat. I’m not criticizing the city of Cleveland, but really!

A superstar of the caliber of LeBron James who stayed in the city of Cleveland for his entire career. Some athletes are not loyal like they used to be. But this is a business and they must make the best decision that will affect their family in a positive way.

Sometimes I miss watching an NFL team wreak havoc on the league for maybe four or eight years like they used to in the mid-’90s. The last team that looked like an NFL dynasty was the New England Patriots. The parody in the NFL is what makes it more exciting to watch than the NBA.

Every week there is something to look forward to and the ratings are never low. I hope the NFL doesn’t change its current salary cap system. Evens out the competition between the largest and smallest markets.
