Top 10 defensemen in the NFL

Here is my overview of the top ten defenses in the NFL. This season looks to be a roller coaster ride and many teams will struggle to stay on top of this list. This was written after week three, so things may change from now on in the season.

10. Arizona Cardinals: They have some of the best safety in the league. We’re talking about Adrian Wilson and Antrel Rolle. The corners aren’t bad either. I mean they have Rodgers Cromartie as well as other consistent players. They would be higher on this list, but their run defense is suspect. I haven’t heard from any of their linebackers or defensive linemen. And I’m sure you don’t either. They’re allowing 100 yards per game on the ground, which isn’t bad, but they’ve played in San Francisco, Miami and Washington. So they are not the toughest enemies yet.

9. Green Bay Packers: They’d also be a lot higher if they hadn’t lost Al Harris by a couple of games. They have a great secondary and just couldn’t hold it together against a great Cowboys offense last weekend. They gave up 48 points against the Lions, come on, it’s the Lions. They fired their coach last week because he’s horrible. They may be a playoff team, but that’s partly because of their offense.

8. NY Giants: Here’s a team with tons of big-name linemen and linebackers. More than without Michael Strahan. Can I say Daaang! They hold teams to 84 yards per game on the ground and 167 in the air. Not bad week after week. They blitz hard and seem to get 6-8 sacks a game. His secondary keeps opponents in check and doesn’t give in too deeply.

7. Philadelphia Eagles: Solid defense all around. They did give up 40 more against the Cowboys. But that’s a stellar offense on that Dallas team. They were literally the top two teams, but I digress. They have been keeping their other opponents’ scoring to a minimum and will dominate throughout the year. Pittsburgh held to six points and St. Louis to three! As Borat once said “Very good!”

6. Tennessee Titans: As hard as it is not to talk about offense, I’ll try. Well, their defense is going to be on the field a lot longer, which will lead to more teams scoring on them once they get tired. They are in the top ten because they have done well so far. However, maintaining this will require a miracle. Good luck titans!

5. Dallas Cowboys: I’d like to rank this team higher, but everyone above them is outrageous defensively. They now have a stellar backfield with Pac Man Jones and Terrence Newman. Linebackers like Zach Thomas and Demarcus Ware make a vicious team that stops passes and runs.

4. Buffalo Bills: With Donte Whitner at Strong Safety and other players at D, these Bills continue to screen opponents. They also have Marcus Shroud on Defensive Tackle, that guy can play! They could stay at the top of their division if they keep playing like this. Out with the old (New England) and in with the new (Bills). Who knows, we could repeat the Cowboys Bills Super Bowls.

3. Minnesota Vikings: Holding teams to 70.3 rushing yards per game, he’s second-best in the league. On top of that, his pass defense is ridiculously good. They have Darren Sharper at Safety and Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin at Corners. His defensive line is what coaches drool over. If they can get their offense to click, that would benefit their defense so they have some time to grab some Gatorade and cool off.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers: I can’t remember a time in my life when they weren’t amazing on defense. They may have trouble staying together this season, though, as defensive line Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel are out for the season.

1. Baltimore Ravens: Wow. Maybe I should stop right there. They keep their opponents 70 yards a game on the ground and 90 yards through the dark sky that their enemy must be watching. Yeah I know what you’re thinking why didn’t I put you on my fantasy team? Well, I’m in the same boat, but let’s move on. Now yes, you could say that they only played against 2 opponents so far. But still, the Browns and Bengals are struggling, but they still have offensive threats like Chad Johnson that were contained by the Ravens.
