Organic Food: The Secret to a Healthy Life

With the increasing practice of producing synthetic or force-ripened fruits and vegetables, it is becoming quite difficult to maintain a healthy diet for the family. The same natural things that used to absorb immunity and ensure people’s well-being are proving ineffective thanks to the recent outbreak of bad food practices around the world. The only effective response to bad practices is to opt for organic food.

What are organic foods?

The food that is the result of organic farming is called as organic foods. Organic farming does not involve the use of synthetic pesticides or harmful chemicals, while they are widely used in conventional agriculture for growing and processing fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products. Only natural components are used in organic farming and, if necessary, minimal amounts of artificial additives are added.

How are organic products different from conventional foods?

The production of both food products, i.e. organic and conventional, is completely different. The former uses natural ingredients while the latter absorbs chemical or synthetic blends. The differences between the two types of farming are listed below.

1) Organic food farming uses natural fertilizers such as manure, cow dung, etc., while traditional food crops inject chemical fertilizers to boost the growth of plants and animals.

two) Organic farming takes environmentally friendly measures such as crop rotation, hand weeding, or mulching to protect plants from unwanted weeds. In contrast, conventional farming sprays herbicides to get rid of the daunting weeds.

3) To preserve plants from natural threats such as insect intrusion, organic farming uses natural insecticide sprays, insects, and birds that feed on intruders or set up nets to prevent insects from entering farmland. Orthodox agriculture, on the other hand, uses synthetic insecticide sprays to protect plants from insects.

4) If the animal gets the disease, organic farming uses natural ways like rotational grazing, leaving the infected animal in an open environment, etc. To protect them from contracting diseases, farmers take preventive measures such as providing them with a clean and balanced diet, keeping the house clean and tidy, etc. Conventional farming cures infected animals by injecting them with growth hormones, antibiotics, veterinary drugs, etc. so that they are healthy and stimulate their growth.

Organic foods are believed to be healthy and taste better than traditionally grown fruits and vegetables. To find out the truth, studies are being done regularly to see if they really make any difference.
