We live in a world where love is based on security, material things, work or what drives a person. Is there a true genuine love that we have missed or stumbled upon? Love is a rare gift that is often overlooked, pushed aside, or thrown away. Sometimes love is often misused or abused. Sometimes love is in our face we don’t recognize it because we have placed all kinds of stereotypes of what love should be. How can we know true love, the total essence or being of what is really not a glimpse of love?

What is the definition of true love? John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Wow! An eternal love, a love that died for me and then gave me a gift. How was this love established? Oh my, a crown of thorns was placed and pushed down on his head. He was mocked, spat at, punched, kicked, knocked down. He was whipped, wounded and bruised. He was given a cross to carry, it became very heavy and then a man from the crowd, Simon the Cyrenean, was chosen to help him carry the cross. As if that were not enough, there was another destination, he was nailed to both hands, nailed to both feet. The cross had to be lifted, put on the ground, and then secured so they could torture him further.

Once he was on the cross he was mocked even more, he was crucified. Even in his moment of despair, misery, agony he was thinking of others, he saw his mother, the disciple whom he loved ”, said to his mother, Woman behold, son! Then let the disciple know, Behold your mother. After this the disciple welcomed her into her house. After this, Jesus knew that everything had happened for the Scriptures to be fulfilled. Jesus was thirsty, they gave him a vinegar, they put it in his mouth. He received the vinegar, he said It is finished: and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. They wanted to break his legs but he was already dead. Instead, they took a spear, pierced his side, and instantly blood and water came out. Is there true love?

Jesus appeared on the scene and selflessly died for me and this world! Who wouldn’t want to meet a man like that who was able to accomplish something we couldn’t even come close to. A man who voluntarily left his family to bring us the gift of obtaining eternal life as well. Salvation that cannot be found in any other name than Jesus Christ. A true love that will never go out of style. A true love that you can read about in your homes with your family, your children and your children. A love story of pure and innocent blood that is spilled. The ultimate sacrifice of true love. Knowing this love first would truly teach you how to love another person the way you are supposed to. There is true love and it begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ.
