French Bulldog – Avoid Excessive Barking Tips

The French bulldog is generally a very calm dog and only barks when there is a cause. If you are tired, frustrated, upset, or your neighbors have repeatedly complained and called the police because your dog was barking excessively, then try not to let your emotions influence your thinking. Instead, take a step back to identify what is causing your dog to behave this way and solve it.

Sometimes when your French Bulldog is barking excessively, it may be for a good cause. For example, suppose your dog barks excessively in the middle of the night while you are asleep. The sound of barking woke him up and he feels angry and upset. You decided to leave your room to silence your dog, but you heard strange noises in the living room. You move slowly and quietly into the living room for a quick look and come across two strangers scattered around looking for valuable things. He quickly returned to his room and dialed 911.

The example above is a good cause as to why your dog is barking excessively and you don’t want to take away that special instinct. So your dog’s excessive barking may NOT be a bad thing at all.

If your French bulldog is barking excessively without good cause, it is because he has been placed in a situation where it is more rewarding for him to bark. When the situation changes, for example by placing your dog in a different area, then your dog can be calm.

Here is some probable reason, or it may be a combination of these reasons that cause your dog to bark excessively: angry, lonely, scared, bored, hungry, cold, hot, asserting dominance, excited, wants attention, intruders, danger, isolated , bossy, stressed out, or pests like mice, roaches, etc.

If your French bulldog continues to bark after the situation has changed, you can use a laser pointer or a stop-barking collar to distract your dog from the barking. Some people prefer to train their dog using strategies and techniques because that creates a stronger bond and respect between them and their dog. Also, training your dog to stop barking can improve his chances of success if your dog has another behavior problem, such as aggressiveness, urinating on the main bed, biting, etc.

Your French bulldog can be trained to stop barking if he decides to go this route. The key to successful dog behavior training will require pleasant and enjoyable interactions between you and your dog, and it should be rewarding for your dog.
