7 tips for caring for your dog in winter

Just like we take special care of ourselves, or our skin and hair in winter, our canine friends also need proper care. Take a look at 7 Winter Dog Grooming Tips. Show him that his comfort and safety are important to you.

1. Fix with care – Keep the insulating layer. Don’t shave your dog down to his skin in winter. Its furry fur acts as an insulator from the cold and keeps it warm. Protect your skin from becoming too dry and flea free.

2. Beware of ice and snow – Ice and snow can make you lose the smell. So never let your dog get into the snowball as he loses his way back.

3. Foot care – After you return from a walk with your pet, clean its paws. They have the possibility of becoming infected due to chemicals such as antifreeze. Rock salt used to melt ice can scratch your legs.

4. Antifreeze is dangerous – Antifreeze can cause poisoning and irreparable kidney damage. Sometimes it is fatal. Be on the lookout for spills or better yet use animal-friendly brands.

5. Check the dog’s house – Keep your pet indoors if the temperature drops too low; otherwise, make sure your dog’s house is safe and warm at night. Make it windproof and waterproof too. Provide blankets and bedding especially with tile floors which can get very cold.

6. Water is essential – Keep giving your pets water during the winter months to prevent them from becoming dehydrated. Snow does not mean that water is not needed. They are like us this way! They need water to burn calories.

7. Games at home – Small game device to keep you busy indoors when the weather doesn’t allow you long walks. It is safe and will prevent you from escaping outdoors into a cold world with many infections to catch.
